Overview of Chicago Navy Pier

On the Chicago shoreline of Lake Michigan, there lies a 3,300 foot-long (1,010 m) pier. This is the Navy Pier. This pier was built in 1916 following the architectural design of Daniel Burnham and his associates. The cost of building this pier was $4.5 million. At the time of its opening, it stood out as the largest pier in the world. The Pier housed many Navy, Army, Red Cross and Home Defense Units during the World War I. Its first use was to serve as commercial pier and an entertainment hub. Other use for the pier were outlined as; Navy Training Center, College Classroom, Public Gathering Place.

Chicago Children's Museum

This is part of the Navy Pier. There are exhibits here that interest both the children and the adults. Also included are activities meant for children and their parents/guardians.

Pier Park
Pier Park is on the upper deck. There are attractions like Navy Piers Ferris Wheel, Musical Carousel, and 18-hole miniature golf course which attract so many people to this place.


How to get to Navy Pier

There are various public transportations going to this tourist attraction site. You can use Metra commuter rail. Other alternative are; City Bus, Sightseeing Bus, Taxi or even Boats. This is a popular tourist attraction site in Illinois and hence there are various means to get you there.

  1. navy pier consists of various restaurants and food courts, also an IMAX theatre and a conservatory. Large ferris wheel just outside the atrium. fyi once exit you cannot come back in un less someone opens the door from the inside)

  2. Chicago is a nice place we know it. Navy pier is a new place for me. This lake looking very nice it is so long and built 1916 almost 100 years old. This lake is also hold world war memory. Very implosive aria of it. Thank you for this information.

    The view of the city with de lake is beautiful! There are several places to eat and to shopping. I was there on Halloween and I could see the fireworks show at night. I recommend this place.

  4. The pier is much longer than we thought it would be. Lots of small restaurants, and attractions the whole walk down. Can easily spend a day here.
