The Mount Rushmore is a fabulous sculptor that has curved faces made of granite. Gutzon Borglum and Lincoln Borglum, the father and son had sculpted this fantastic sculpture. This sculpture features the heads of 4 U.S presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. The total area of this memorial is about 1,278.45 acres.
The Mount Rushmore is originally named as six grandfathers. The name of the mountain has changed by a renowned lawyer Charles E. Rushmore in 1885. In the beginning, the task of carving the Mount was taken for the purpose of improving the tourism industry in the South Dakota. After a long-term discussion in congress, the project got the approval. The carving of Mount Rushmore had begun in 1927 and finished in 1941 without any hazard.
The main idea to built Mount Rushmore for tourism came from Doane Robinson, a prominent historian. However, in the year of 1924, Robinson convinced Gutzon Borglum to visit the black hills to assure the carving of the mountain could be completed.
