Overview of Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge that links the city of San Francisco to Marina County. The bridge is one mile wide and three miles long. It is one of the most recognizable symbols of San Francisco. The American Society of Civil Engineers declared it a wonder of the modern world. The bridge was officially opened in 1937. It has stood out to be among the most beautiful sites to be photographed. The Golden Bridge Gate and Highway District was incorporated in 1928 by a California legislative act. It was given the mandate to design, construct and finance the golden gate bridge. The bridge is being maintained by Golden Bridge Gate, Highway and Transportation District.

Alcatraz
From the golden gate bridge, you can have a perfect view of the Alcatraz Island. It is usually a lovely site and many people like viewing the Alcatraz Island given the worldwide popularity of the island.

Romantic Sites
The bridge offers a good place for lovers to express their love more especially during the night when the golden lights are turned on. Many residents have used this bridge as a proposing site.


How to get there

You can take bus number 28 that will get you to the bridge. There are also sightseeing buses that take tourists to the bridge. If you are driving then expect to pay toll fee ranging from $6.50. There is no charge to those walking on foot.

  1. As I was looking at the picture, I was wondering why they call it The Golden Gate Bridge as it doesn't look golden to me. Thanks for clearing up that mystery. It's fun to learn how this bridge is actually considered a romantic place to be. Though really, any place near water would likely be romantic.

    It amazes me how this bridge has stood strong even after all the massive earthquakes in the Los Angelos and California area. Just goes to show that good craftsmanship will stand the test of time.
