Pier 39 is one of the most popular shopping centers in San Francisco, a major tourist attraction that is built on a pier. At Pier 39, you will find lots of restaurants, shops, street performances, a video arcade, virtual 3D rides, the Aquarium of the Bay and magnificent views of the California sea lions. Pier 39’s marina is the home to the famous floating Forbes Island restaurant. Towards the end of the Pier sits a 2-story carousel, which is one of the most dominant features of the pier.
The location of the pier is at the edge of Fisherman Wharf district, close to the Embarcadero and North Beach in Chinatown. You can easily access the area via F Market streetcars.
Aquarium of the Bay
You can discover most the fascinating marine life of the San Francisco Bay by walking through the 300 feet tunnels of the Aquarium. The tunnels are crystal clear, giving a magnificent view of the eels, sharks, octopuses and thousands of other marine creatures that are indigenous to the area. The total number of animals is more than 20,000.
Madame Tussaud Wax Museum
In San Francisco, take the 39 or 47 bus, or a MUNI’s F-line street car. The famous cable cars of San Francisco can also be used and will drop you off a few blocks from the Pier.
