Sunday Travel Photo #55: Death Valley

Sand Dunes.  Death Valley.  December 2013.

Overview of Death Valley
Death Valley National Park is one of the unique national parks in the United States. It is unique because it is the hottest and driest national park in the U.S. The park is home to a good number of plants and animals that can survive this harsh climatic condition. The park was established in 1994 and lies on 3.4 million acres. It is a place that only those with bold hearts visit.

Top Attractions

Dante’s View
The central part of the Death Valley can be viewed well from this point. The point is about 5,500 feet above sea level.

Darwin Falls
There is a waterfall located on the western edge of the park. It gives the park a lifeline in terms of providing water.

Mesquite Spring
This is also another attraction site found on the northern part of the park.

Scotty’s Castle
There is a castle in the middle of the dessert that was built by Albert Johnson, a Chicago millionaire. The castle has remained to be a tourist destination up-to-date.

Mosaic Canyons
The mosaic canyons have given hikers a good place to explore within the park.

Natural Bridge Canyon
There is a natural bridge that can be accessed from the east side of the park. It is just a few minutes away from the parking area.

How to get to Death Valley
There is an option of getting to Death Valley National Park by air. This is because there are two small airstrips in the park for private planes. There is no public bus transportation to and from the park and therefore you have rent a car from Las Vegas or Barstow.

Sunday Travel Photo #54: Pier 39 San Francisco

Pier 39 is one of the most popular shopping centers in San Francisco, a major tourist attraction that is built on a pier. At Pier 39, you will find lots of restaurants, shops, street performances, a video arcade, virtual 3D rides, the Aquarium of the Bay and magnificent views of the California sea lions. Pier 39’s marina is the home to the famous floating Forbes Island restaurant. Towards the end of the Pier sits a 2-story carousel, which is one of the most dominant features of the pier.
The location of the pier is at the edge of Fisherman Wharf district, close to the Embarcadero and North Beach in Chinatown. You can easily access the area via F Market streetcars.

Aquarium of the Bay
You can discover most the fascinating marine life of the San Francisco Bay by walking through the 300 feet tunnels of the Aquarium. The tunnels are crystal clear, giving a magnificent view of the eels, sharks, octopuses and thousands of other marine creatures that are indigenous to the area. The total number of animals is more than 20,000.

Madame Tussaud Wax Museum

In San Francisco, take the 39 or 47 bus, or a MUNI’s F-line street car. The famous cable cars of San Francisco can also be used and will drop you off a few blocks from the Pier.
