What a wonderful Christmas weekend traveling with family and friends!  I needed it after several solo trips.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park a.k.a San Diego Wild Animal Park is located in Escondido, California and is the largest attraction in San Diego County.

The park is visited by 2 millions people annually and is home to 2600 animals representing more than 300 species.

Sunday Travel Photo #26: The Biltmore Estate, North Carolina

Biltmore Estate.  Ashville, North Carolina.  Nov 2013.

Overview:

Biltmore is a privately owned estate. It is America's largest home and one of the largest estates around. But the interesting thing here is not its size but the fact that it serves as a tourist destination as well. George Washington Vanderbilt II built the main house in the estate between the years 1889-1895. To date, the house is still the largest privately owned house in the U.S. This house hosted 62 paintings and 17 sculptures from the National Gallery of Art during the World War 2. This was in a bid to protect these pieces of art should there be an attack on America.

Top Tourist Attractions

The estate lies on an 8,000 acre piece of land. Noting this, there is enough space for the garden. There is 75 acres set aside for formal garden. The garden here is well maintained and provides a good ambiance for visitors.

The Cottage
There is an historic two bedroom cottage that serves as getaway for guests here.

Library
There is a two-story library in this estate. The library has the history of the estate dating from its construction date.
Other attractions in the estate include swimming pool, spa, winery, bowling alley among others.

Biltmore Winery and Antler's Hill Village
Be sure to check out the America's most visited winery in Antler's Hill Village on your way out from the estate, and enjoy free wine tasting which includes in Biltmore Estate admission.  The wine cellar is pretty impressive.

How to get to Biltmore Estate

The exact physical address of Biltmore estate is 1 Lodge St. Asheville, NC 28803, United States. It is recommended that you use a personal car for it will also be needed when traveling from one destination to another in the same estate. There is free parking inside the estate.  Admission is quite expensive. Regular admission is $59 at the gate, and $5 higher during Christmas season.  I got my ticket for $55 from my hotel front desk.  You get a better price if you buy 7+ days ahead of time from Biltmore's web site, but there's no coupons or student discounts offered.

Hotel del Coronado is the beach front luxury hotel located in the city of Coronado just across San Diego Bay in San Diego, California.  It is also known as The Del or Hotel Del.

The hotel is the second largest wooden structure in the United States, and it was the largest resort hotel in the world when it opened in 1888.

The hotel used to be one of the top 10 resorts in the world.  The hotel has been featured in many books and movies.  It has hosted many royals, presidents and celebrities from all over the world.
