Crater Lake National Park

Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States.

A massive volcanic eruption 7,700 years ago left a deep basin in the place where a mountain peak once stood.  Centuries of rain and snow filled the basin, forming a deep blue lake whose waters are of unmatched color and clarity.

View from Discovery Point
Facts: Crater Lake is 6.02 miles across (max) and 4.54 miles across (min).  The deepest point is 1943 feet deep.  The lake holds 4.9 trillion gallons of water.

From the park headquarter, I drove took West Rim Drive and drove around the lake and took East Rim Drive to get back to the park headquarter.

The north entrance to Rim Drive is usually closed till June. A road is narrow, guardrails-less, what makes a slow trip, but a breathtaking view makes it all worth it; hence you have to drive clockwise if you want to see all the important viewpoints (some are not even marked). Drive is 33 miles long, partially one-way and you can even run into the snow piles or minor road works in winter.

"Centuries of rain and snow filled the basin, forming a deep blue lake whose waters are of unmatched color and clarity. " - crater lakes have that magnetic beauty, nobody knows why.

Maybe because of the danger and beauty all in one??

Did you know that you can fish at Crater Lake without a fishing license? It's a great place for Trout and Salmon. I highly recommend it.

    1. I did not know that. I'm not too crazy about fishing activity but it sounds like fun.

  6. Were you alone? You should have taken photos of yourself on the scenic view of the lake. But thanks for providing the wonderful views. I can put them as wallpaper until I go there and take my own shots.

    1. Yes, that was a solo adventure. I have a selfie stick but I end up taking scenery photos mostly.
